Original Penguin was founded by Abbot Pederson. Pederson got the original idea for his penguin mascot during a 1995 Nyc business trip for Munsingwear. While killing time before his homeward flight, and after a few drinks, he happened upon a taxidermist's shop, bought a stuffed penguin ("Pete") to accompany him on the flight. After knocking Pete's head off, a stewardess removed Pederson's tie and placed it around the stuffed bird's neck, joking that the handsome penguin would make a handsome icon. And the rest is history!
