Dr. Luca Gritti, who founded the niche perfume
house Gritti in 2010, trained in chemistry but went into a career in financial consulting instead of his family’s perfume manufacturing business, which was founded by his grandfather in 1946. Dr. Gritti eventually joined the family business, which has roots in Venice dating to the 16th century. Alvise Gritti, whose father was Andrea, the 77th Grande Doge of Venice, was an alchemist, scholar, and merchant who traveled heavily as the Venetian ambassador in the Ottoman court and created his own perfume recipes.
