The founder of Parfums Grès, Madame Alix Grès, was a singular figure in Parisian fashion. She went through several artistic phases, including early experimentation as a sculptor, years as a hat-maker and a wildly successful couturier, and her eventual interest in perfume, leading to the foundation of the perfumery in 1958. Her couture earned her the epithet “The Star of Elegance” as well as recognition by Vogue as the greatest living couturier in 1988.
