After working as a bookbinder in Paris during the 1920s, Etienne Aigner developed an interest
and skill in leatherworking. He began creating his own original bags, wallets and other accessories, and he soon captured the attention of notable fashion designers such as Christian Dior. He worked in Europe until 1949 when he moved to New York in hopes to find his own independent success. He opened his first showroom a decade later and soon created an international enterprise with the help of German businessman Heiner H. Rankl. The brand now sells fragrances, fashion and more in countries across the globe.
