As its name suggests, the fragrance incorporates the Middle Eastern ingredient oud, which is a richly woody ingredient that has a smokiness. Diptyque is a luxury perfume house, founded in France in 1961. Originally, it specialized in textiles and furniture. Beginning in 1963, the brand began to formulate its own scented candles, which remains a signature offering from the name. 1968 saw the first perfume release under this brand, inspired by English traditional fragrances. It has released 51 perfumes since then.
