Banana Republic was founded in the United States in 1978 by Mel and Patricia Ziegler. It originally sold travel and safari clothing. The Gap acquired the brand in 1983 and made the company over into a more upscale fashion label. The company launched its first fragrance in 1995 in collaboration with Inter Parfums, Inc. Many famous noses work for the brand, including Honorine Blanc, Irina Burlakova, and Claude Dir.
