White Hinoki by Amouroud Perfume. When tourists come to the great Forest of Akiyoshidai in Japan, they’re met with an astounding aroma:
billions of Hinoki trees dripping with dew. The unique scent is nearly indescribable – different for every person and even changing with one’s mood. Launched in 2018, Amouroud White Hinoki captures this perfectly, along with the forest’s other heavenly floral aromas and spicy woods that fill the senses in this magical place. The top
opens with a burst of zesty white pepper and bracing ginger. This gently transitions to bittersweet grapefruit that perfectly balances the perfume’s sharpness. The heart is wrapped around sweet, fluffy heliotrope and fruity labdanum. A bite of cinnamon adds sensuous pleasure to the middle. The base is most noticeable: a blend of heady whiskey and rich, nuanced tobacco forms an earthy compact, throughout which the complex tones of Hinoki wood dances. Sometimes leathery, sometimes citrus, it’s always invigorating and inviting, like a dip in a hot spring or climbing into freshly laundered linens.
Amouroud helped the world reexamine traditional perfumery beginning in the 1970s. They were the first fashion house to custom-blend luxury scents, creating an entire new boutique niche.
