Emeraude by Francois Coty is a milestone in perfume history, the first commercial western Oriental (a fragrance marrying sweet balsamic, floral and ancient resinous elements from the East but with a modern, European sensibility) and possibly the prototype for a thousand fragrances which followed on its delightful wake. Notably, the emblematic nocturnal Shalimar by Guerlain, which rumour has it was “inspired” by the core accord of Emeraude in what has gone down in history as one of the most competitive races between perfume brands. I suffer from allergies to substances in many perfumes, including those that are supposed to be hypo-allergenic. And, like most women, there are some fragrances that simply do not work for me. Emeraude absolutely does work for me. I cannot imagine wearing anything else.

I have worn this fragrance since I was 16, first attracted to it because emerald is my birthstone. It brings me more compliments from both men and women than any fragrance I have ever worn, including far more expensive ones. It is so much my signature fragrance that my daughter says it is what her Mom smells like, and if she catches a wiff of it somewhere she looks for me.
