Review of Ivoire de Balmain by Driggs46
In my opinion Ivoire is the star of the Balmain collection. I have worn it since it was introduced in the eighties, and it instantly became a favorite. I have had many compliments over the years. One in particular still stands out. I was crossing the street and passed a man going in the opposite direction. Right after I walked by him he yelled back to me "What perfume are you wearing?" I replied "Ivoire," and he said "it's beautiful." His response stuck with me because he was right, it is beautiful. For me the opening is all aldehydes, but it settles pretty quickly into chamomile, marigold and then carnation. Then it moves into bergamot, and lemon, and on me it lingers there a while. Finally it settles into the ylang-ylang, and lily-of-the-valley, and along with the base notes of sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk, and incense they all mingle together for the rest of the day or night. It's a very complex fragrance, but it is really "beautiful" too! As others here have said it's a Masterpiece. And remains to this day one of my favorites.

I too wore this fragrance many years ago. A fragrance can bring back memories, good and bad. Let's hope for the good!!

I want to change my review which is listed below! Ivoire took a short time to grow on me but now I absolutely LOVE it and think it's a wonderful, very unique, standout perfume! It's fresh, sexy and vibrant and is actually quite addictive! I love the smell of it and think it's ideal as an anytime, anywhere kind of perfume and it's so unique it'd be hard to think of any other perfume that smells like this. It's GORGEOUS and highly recommendable to any girl or woman who wants a perfume that's unique, fresh, sexy and classy at a very affordable price.

I can't make up my mind about this perfume! I read so many good reviews about it I ordered it "blind" over the internet but when it arrived I was a bit disappointed that it didn't smell quite as amazing as I was anticipating. It's classy, pleasant, green and quite soapy smelling, which a lot of the other reviews mention as well, but personally I think it is quite a mature smelling perfume and would probably suit someone over the age of 50 or so. I can't imagine most younger women, say in the 20s to 30s age range, would wear a perfume like this. At the moment I feel a bit indifferent about it, although it is pleasant and would be nice to wear for certain occasions, but I can't imagine that this would be a perfume I would ever reach for daily, unlike something like Oxygene by Lanvin. Also, I find on me although it goes on quite strong it actually doesn't have much staying power which surprised me because I thought it would. Anyway, a pleasant perfume but not necessarily right for me!

I've been wearing this perfume for many years and do not wish to change but unfortunately it is not sold here anymore. I will have to find it on-line or travel to a big centre like Montreal or Toronto to find it. It would be nice if a lot more stores carried this line. It is a very feminine perfume and one which makes me feel exceptional.

Ivoire is a fragrance that I have worn as a part of my fragrance wardrobe for the last 30 years. I never tire of it. Its clean warm and sophisticated, without being too strong or overpowering. It has a wonderful development and finish and will last all day

Review of Ivoire de Balmain by Pamela J*******
This fantastic fragrance used to be advertised with the tag line: The Fragrance That Is a Woman. And I have to agree, when I wear it I feel very sexy and feminine in the most sophisticated French way. It has great depth and substance to the fragrance, but is never overwhelming or obnoxious. It is ALWAYS the scent I wear when I want to impress, whether it be man or woman. It works well in the office and REALLY well for after hours wear. If they ever stop making it I will be devastated. I cannot wear many fragrances, and this is the one I consider my signature scent. Can hardly find the perfume from any more, or the bath products, but I'll always have this fragrance.

Review of Ivoire de Balmain by Barbara Parker
What a surprise this was! I was not expecting such a delicious, sophisticated scent as this is. I thought too, that it would smell a bit old lady, and it was so much the opposite. I have not stopped wearing it. I actually feel very glamorous when I put it on. Something about it reminds me of my beautiful mother.

I have worn this fragrance off and on for almost twenty years and never tire of the scent. It is the only fragrance that gets as many compliments from men as it does from women. It is soft and sweet, without being over the top. Subtle, but always noticed. A little goes a long way. Don't wear this unless you want to be noticed.

Review of Ivoire de Balmain by Joyce Brown
I began wearing Ivoire approximately 30 years ago, and have gone to a couple of others since, but am now back at Ivoire, which always smelled very clean to me, and not overpowering. I've always kept several bottles of the EDT, which I picked up years ago in St. Thomas, and it still smells great, but am trying to find the powder and lotion again. Would you be able to assist in this endeavor?

This is pure class in a bottle! It is unlike any 21st century perfume that I find too heady. Ivoire has a clean subtle sexiness about it that makes it irresistable to me.

this is a warm classic fragrance that I have loved for 35 years. I get compliments everytime I wear it, I think because it is so different from the sharp/sweet fragrances so popular today. Mature but not "old lady", sophisticated, but not overwelming, woody/floral with a light soap smell, try it you'll love it

Review of Ivoire de Balmain by A. Woolsey
Ivoire is a heavy and thick while also seeming remarkably clean, like very fine, very expensive soap. Ivoire is a bitter floral with a round, fatty quality; remember that fat is a key ingredient of soap, after all. The scent seems to scrub the nostrils as it travels through. There's something so satisfying about the scent, despite the somewhat harsh quality of it. There's a lively green quality to Ivoire, too, which holds the scent up in its strong early notes, keeping it from becoming overbearing and ultimately unbearable. As Ivoire mellows, it gets a bit more woody and warm. With a gentle hand, Ivoire would be a good choice for office wear, bolder than the common watery, light florals common today but not as potentially offensive as a big oriental or heavily aldehydic scent. It wears down from astringency to something a bit more powdery. Sandalwood provides a faint touch of sweetness, while a faint note of raspberry – like a ribbon of burgundy through the creamy ivory color of the fragrance – plays through the scent.

Review of Ivoire de Balmain by Catherine Bailey
Lovely and classic perfume. Fresh and different, smelling slightly soapy (in a good way) in the drydown. I have worn off and on for 10 years and always enjoy coming back to this, as it doesn't smell like anyone else. Lasts a long time and can be overpowering so just a small spray does the trick!
