Just because you’ve reached the end of your signature scent doesn’t mean you have to wave goodbye to that beautiful bottle forevermore! We’re all about shopping sustainably and upcycling wherever possible here at Perfume.com and that’s definitely a sentiment we apply to our fragrance bottles.

An empty perfume bottle can be upcycled in so many different ways and choosing its next life is a big part of the fun. What better way to show off about your superior taste in scent than by decorating your house with all of the key components of your fragrance wardrobe?

We’ve rounded up all of the best ways to upcycle perfume bottles!

Arrange your flowers in them

It’s such a waste to just throw away the gorgeous bottles that your favorite perfumes lived in. Instead, upcycle the bottles into DIY flower vases. If it’s a larger bottle, feel free to go all out with real flowers for a never-ending feminine glow to your room. If you’d rather keep the bottle as a statement piece, choose an artificial flower and pry off the top of the bottle before sealing it in and setting it down somewhere on display.

Make them into fragrance diffusers

There’s no reason why your perfume bottle can’t keep on smelling delicious even when all of the original scent inside has been used up. A great way to upcycle your perfume bottle is to turn it into a reed diffuser. All you need is a high-neck perfume bottle, a handful of reeds to diffuse the scent, a carrier oil and your perfume (or essential oil) of choice.

Display them on a shelf

Some perfume bottles are just too pretty to throw away. And, even if you don’t fancy upcycling them into something useful, there’s no reason why your bottles can’t become a staple part of the room in their own right. Much like coffee table books and stylish ornaments, you can dot your favorite perfume bottles around the house to add a chic touch to your decor.

Light up your bedroom with fairy lights

If the perfume bottle you’re hoping to upcycle is one with a wide brim, you can make good use of its larger size by filling it with fairy lights. We’ve all seen the famous jars filled with fairy lights and a perfume bottle offers something pretty similar with a little more style and sophistication. You may need to use pliers to remove the exterior cap, plastic valve, and metal around the neck but it’s well worth the effort for the atmospheric finish this upcycled bottle promises.

Use the fancy details for storage purposes

Sometimes the bottle itself isn’t overly special but the topper is: Marc Jacobs, we’re looking at you, here! In which case you’ve got a little more freedom as to what you do with your perfume bottles. We’re huge fans of this upcycled perfume topper that’s been turned into a lid for bathroom storage.

Turn them into wedding party favors

If you’re known for your love of fragrance and are never seen in public (or private) without a scent adorning you, you’ll probably want to celebrate your special occasions with perfume, too. Whether you’re preparing for a wedding or a birthday party, upcycled perfume bottles can add a unique finish to your table setting for all of your guests to enjoy. Bonus points for making the seating plan a little easier to navigate.

Use the bottle as a candle holder

Perfume bottles upcycled into flower vases is one thing. But perfume bottles upcycled into a candle holder is a whole other story. Arguably the easiest yet most effective way to pay tribute to your favorite scent, all you need to do is remove the top elements of the perfume bottle and replace them with a long candlestick. Thinking of those classic wine bottles dripping with candle wax in vintage Italian restaurants? This process offers a similar yet all-the-more-stylish result.

Turn them into new perfumes

Creating your own perfume isn’t as hard as you think. Just mix a few of your favorite scent notes together and see what you come up with. It also makes a really cute and thoughtful gift idea.

We’ve finished talking you through all of the best ways to upcycle your perfume bottles, which is definitely all of the inspiration we need to go choose a new scent to (eventually) upcycle, ourselves!
