Van Cleef & Arpels is French brand founded by Alfred Van Cleef and his uncle, Salomon Arpels in Paris in 1896. Salomon died in 1906 but Charles, Julien, and Louis joined the company soon afterwards. The first store opened in the same year and the brand gained attention for its use of precious stones and innovative stone-setting techniques. The business was family-run until 1999, when it was acquired by Richemont S.A. The first fragrance was released in 1978, and Inter Parfums holds the fragrance license.
