Madame Grès launched her perfume company in 1959 when she released her renowned and original perfume, Cabochard. Other scents such as Folie Douce, Cabaret, Pastel, Cabotine and Caline came soon after. It might come as a surprise that Madame Gres was once just a little girl with a dream. Originally named Alix Barton, she grew up with ambitions of becoming either a ballerina or a sculptor. She entered the world of fashion as a hat-maker and commenced her perfume career after taking on the name “Grès”, which is an anagram for her husband’s name “Serge”. The rest was history.
