L'occitane en Provence is a French perfume company founded by Olivier Baussan in 1976. He began by selling lavender and rosemary essential oils in his local markets before opening his first boutique and soap factory in Provence in 1981. The company was named for the women of Occitania, a settlement that existed in the area during the Middle Ages. Today, they have expanded to shops in more than 90 nations while still relying primarily on ingredients sourced from Baussan’s hometown.
