In the late 1300’s, a perfume was accidentally discovered at the Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo on the island of Capri, Italy when flowers were left in a vase for three days and fragranced the water. Centuries later, the prior of the Monastery found old perfume formulas that dated back to that time and had them replicated by an Italian chemist. The result is the fragrance house of Carthusia, founded in 1948.
