Maurer & Wirtz is a German fragrance house that was founded in 1854. Michael Maurer and his stepson Andreas Wirtz began the company as a soap manufacturer. Their soaps sold successfully and the business grew, but it was in 1949 that the company established itself as a maker of luxury soaps. From there, it was not a big leap for the company to become a purveyor of luxury perfumes. Since the 1990s, the company has been expanding its fragrance offerings.
