From the start, Marc Jacobs was destined to be a great designer
. Prior to completing his studies at Parson’s School of Design, Jacobs had already designed and sold a line of hand-knit sweaters and by the time of his graduation in 1984 he had won many of the school’s highest honors. department at Perry Ellis in 1988 and though he won The Women’s Designer of the Year Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1992, Jacobs was dismissed by Perry Ellis after his “grunge” collection of the same year. Marc Jacobs International Company, L.P. was launched in 1993 and its first full collection was produced in 1994. Jacobs was appointed the creative director of Louis Vuitton in 1997 with whom he is still associated.
As the depth of his work has brought him much attention, Jacobs has become a notable fixture on the celebrity scene in New York. Jacobs was included in Time Magazine’s “2010 Time 100” list of the 100 most influential people in the world and in 2011 was 12th in Out Magazine’s list of “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America”.
