Ralph Lauren Perfume and Ralph Lauren Cologne

Though he did not partake in any formal design training and started his career in fashion as a salesman, Ralph Lauren managed to grow his necktie business into a billion dollar empire and his wares are forever identified with the sporty and preppy lifestyle. After dropping out of business school and serving in the army, Lauren worked for Brookes Brothers before securing financial backing to open his store, Polo Ralph Lauren, in 1967 at the age of 28. Within two years he was able to open his own boutique within Bloomingdales and by 1971 a stand alone store in Beverly Hills. In the following years the brand grew considerably and now operates as Ralph Lauren Corporation. Though the Polo has been dropped from its name, the Polo line remains the flagship brand of the company and its clothing offerings span from sportswear to formal wear and reflect a classic American style tied in with a rugged, outdoorsy image. The main logo of the company is still the pony with or without the polo player.

In 1978 Ralph Lauren partnered with L’Oreal to launch their first fragrance. The iconic Polo is a sharp, woody and acrid fragrance that has become one of the best selling and most recognized colognes in history. Their first women’s perfume, Lauren, is an equally memorable scent with its fruity notes blended with rich exotic florals. Other popular men’s colognes include the Big Pony series, Sport, Safari, Romance and Explorer. Popular women’s perfumes include the Ralph and Romance series, Safari, Chaps and Notorious.
