Iris is such a compelling, strange note for perfumers: A precious ingredient, harvested from the rhizomes of the plant and left to mature for 3 years before being used, it possesses aspects of upturned earth, powdery dryness and floral nuances. In short, not what you would expect used in a man’s cologne. And yet, iris scents for men pose this modern challenge which confident men are proud to pull off! Prada, ever in the vanguard, has released their newest iris scent for men, Infusion d’Homme with that concept in mind. The perfumer who also composed the hugely popular Infusion d’Iris by Prada for women, Daniela Andrier, has been quoted saying Infusion d’Homme ‘…has a very fresh, crisp smell — like a man just out of the shower.’ And it does! The iris prominent top notes (dry and almost brittle) are enlivened by a pinch of neroli, soon overpowered by a pure soap accord which “reads” as aqueous, sudsy and floral. Young, unassuming in its beautiful sparse bottle with a silver dog-tag attached, discreet and yet lasting, Infusion d’Homme is a go-to fragrance when you don’t know what to choose and you can’t bother to waver.
