JUNGLE FEVER Colognes For Cougars?!

Oh my, have I made a legendary and accidental fragrance discovery you’ll find amusing!

When Marc Jacobs’ Lola perfume was launched this fall, every woman under 30 was clawing at the fragrance shelves for a piece of the fruity-floral scent for their very own.

I braved the riots at the mall with my beau’s daughter, a fashion-forward and very headstrong 16-year old. We both approached bottles: I picked up the new L’eau Ambree an elegant and sultry new fragrance from Prada. Beau’s daughter picked up Lola. Our reactions to each others’ fragrance choices were hilarious and similar: we both scrunched faces at the other. “Ew!” she said at my choice. “It smells like old lady!” and mine at Lola: “Darling! It smells like red candy wrapped in pink candy blended with green candy! I’ve put two inches onto my hips just from smelling it!” (Note: daughter did NOT find this comment as amusing as I, or the salesgirl, did— but when do they ever!?)

Anyway, daughter tried to convince me that it wasn’t so sickly-sweet on the wrists, and to humor her (and prove her wrong) I spritzed myself with Lola, and then, wrapped up in a whirlwind of fall season sales, promptly forgot I was wearing the scent.

Later, I met a few girlfriends for drinks at a posh urban lounge frequented by hip 20-something crowds on the weekends. Our waiter sauntered over: young, writhe, a chiseled jaw and back muscles you could see rippling through his made-to-order uniform shirt. Beautiful, but in an age category more appropriate for my daughter. So I didn’t give his obvious, raw masculinity a second thought; pointed at the wine list for my selection and as he leaned closer to me to follow my finger to the page, I could feel him breathe inwardly. I straightened up, shocked at the sexual energy he was sending my way.

“You smell Amazing! OMG! WoW!” he commented, leaning into my chair and ignoring the protocol of finishing our drink orders while my friends looked on, slack-jawed. “It’s really sexy.” And at that he picked up my hand by the palm, smelled my wrist and kissed the top of my hand, never letting my gaze fall from his.

“What. Was. That.” asked my recently divorced (and very ‘on the market’) friend Julie once he’d disappeared behind the bar. And I didn’t know what to say, until it all pieced together:

To attract young men, wear young scents!

And in comes a whole new phenomenon for the lovely brand of women our society has coined “cougars”. My friend Julie immediately picked up some of the most popular teen scents, including Lola. She also promptly picked up a 29-year old. ;)

Will it work for you? Sport some younger scents from the teen page and see what love connections your scent will spark!
