As I prepare to leave London and move on to Paris, I regret not finding a fragrance sample of By George!. The fragrance was designed by Britain’s Tourism Authority to capture the essence of England which apparently includes the smell of the sea, fresh vegetables and lawnmower exhaust fumes. A new spin on fragrance, in my books.
Launched as part of Visit England’s tourism campaign, Enjoy Every Minute, Enjoy England, was aimed at encouraging Britons to take short breaks and holidays at home, to rediscover their own backyards. I am fascinated to think that such a scent will encourage the go power needed to explore an English seaside garden, but I like the idea. However, Britons are outraged at the 8500 cost to develop the scent-quoted by Mark Wallace of the TaxPayers Alliance as a complete waste of taxpayers money.
Notes of By George! include chamomile tea, salty sea air and damp earth, evening jasmine, and freshly cut flower stems on the compost heap, garden mint, carrots, beetroots, and a base of woodland mosses. For myself, it hasnt really encouraged my desire to explore, but has made me a little hungry!
