An enduring designer for such fashion houses as Krizia, Charles Jourdan and Valentino, legendary Karl Lagerfeld, disillusioned by haute couture, left Parisian fashion temporarily in 1964 for the Italian art world.   "Chloe was one of my first "real" perfumes, and I wore it all the time in college. I'm pretty sure they have changed the formula and it's just not as pretty and complex as it used to be. It smells sweeter and cheaper, not as rich. I like florals, but Chloe now strikes me as too strong."
