Powder smell
I had read the smell and scent profiles and this product was none of them. It smelled powdery mixed with a scent I smell when I clean my cat box. An elderly or infant bathroom is what it reminds me of not sure what happened here - will not be buying again and will return if possible.

I've been using Joy since the 80's.
I found out when Joy changed hands it was moved to London. Then the London production was discontinued and Joy was returned to Paris. The bottles have the originating location marked on them.

I wanted to comment that I've bought (other email account) quite a bit over the years from Perfume.com and haven't gotten any knockoffs yet & customer service is historically informed/pleasant/helpful - 'though I have gotten knockoff's and worse elsewhere. Recently got a large bottle of Arpege elsewhere (they have a good reputation) and it not only wasn't Arpege, one could not even blame it on the accident of transportation being too hot and making it go over. It smelled exactly and ONLY like freshly poured TAR. TAR!!!! And btw to a former comment, Mr. Patou died in 1936, and a Patou boutique employee will of course not want you buying elsewhere (or if he/she were honest - perhaps they mistook Perfume.com for another company - there are so many legitimate ones, quasi-legitimate ones, and then the OTHERS). I also got a bottle of Tabu which I'm familiar with since I was a child - it was watered down with pure alcohol and what felt like something acidic - it burned on contact and the smell lasted 10 seconds - Tabu is a bit heavy in contrast, long lasting - especially for a cologne, and has some of the notes I like. Perhaps a little active thinking would be a good thing for people. Someone Said It So IT Must Be True or I Read It So It Must Be True is a dangerous path to loss of the ability to reason or think actively. A bit of caution and insight when listening to a stranger - especially one with an agenda, and with anything you read as news is a very good idea - example to check the veracity of this: Choose a news magazine which is published in multiple countries. Read the SAME article in different countries and looookie there - completely different angle. Publishing is a business, magazines have to be sold. Fill in the blanks. Doing so puts you in a better position to make wise decisions. And to not jump to conclusions which can be harmful to others and to yourself.

Did not know it was discontinued
I purchased a bottle of spray perfume and it smells awful. Had I known the Patou line is discontinued, I would not have bought it. It smells old and like cheap bathroom spray.

Best scent ever!
Jean Patou JOY was discontinued. I have read that the company and this brand was sold several times. Some question the authenticity of this perfume. I don't care if it is a copy or not if it smells like the original, which IMHO it does. This is my favorite fragrance ever - across all decades. The problem with this version, however, is that the scent does not last long - in fact it disappears very quickly. I will buy in different versions to see if that makes a difference in longevity.

Incorrect information
advertising this as PERFUME. It is NOT as box says TOILETTE. I personally only use the real PERFUME, NOT TOILETTE. I would be very unhappy with what I think is just an oversight, but I wouldn't receive what I want. Thank you.

This is a great website!
I love Joy but it's sometimes hard to find, so when I stumbled across your website, I was thrilled. I purchased the spray bottle twice so I can leave a bottle in my travel bag. Joy is fragrant and doesn't require a lot to be applied while lasting through out the day.

Not the Real Thing!!!
This fragrance was NOT ORIGINAL JOY! Someone took completely different ingredients to mimic the approximate original fragrance. It came out like Brittany Spears singing a Joni Mitchell song from Blue. It was just wrong.

I have been buying this for my wife for 30 years I've always been very pleased with it very sweet smell I bought a bottle to my mother-in-law for Christmas and when she sprayed it on its spray smell like bus bug spray chemistry of the body has a lot to do with perfume smell so if you smell bad when you spray it on because the perfume does not go with your Chemistry I'm very happy with the perfume and will continue buying it till the day I die

Smells like chemical soup
I got this perfume for Christmas from my dear husband. He bought it based on reviews on this site. I really tried to like the perfume, wore it several times and each time it gave me an intense headache that only went away after I shower to wash it off. To be sure it wasn't just me, I gave it to my husband to smell. He sprayed it in the air in our bathroom, sniffed it, turned green and ran out of the bathroom saying "OMG that perfume stinks!" He described the scent as chemical soup droplets trying to pass as fragrance that reminds him of those overpowering scents 90 year old women who lost their sense of smell would sometimes wear. It gave him a terrible headache too and now we use it to spray in the toilet after use just to get rid of it. Talk about a waste of money.

Classic Perfume from the Past
I wanted to own this classic perfume and hoped it would match my memory of it from years past. Either the bottle was stored for a decade and lost its fragrance, or my sense of the smell has been lost. It just wasn't the way I remembered it at all.

A Rose is a Rose
