Terre d'Hermes Cologne for Men by Hermes
Introduced in 2006, TERRE D’Hermès by Hermès cologne for men is a vegetable and mineral scent made without animal by-products or musk. The scent sparkles with orange and grapefruit notes that blend with flint for a mineral note. It then combines with pepper, bay rose, geranium, patchouli, benzoin and vetiver around the central note of Atlas cedar to enhance its Earthly tones. TERRE D’Hermès by Hermès is a long-lasting and alluring scent that comes in a clear square bottle with Terre d’Hermès printed towards the top in orange lettering.

its a cool, clean smell that lasts the whole day.. i am complimented on it every day. its a scent of confidence, sexiness, and nice clean, manly scent. i happened to come across it from a stuff in in a bill from lord and taylor. immediately i went to the web to order it, try it out.. the prices were way chesper.. since then, two years now, this is all i wear... you'll love it..

This was a very different smell. Cedar and oranges mainly and as good as it smells I would have to say it's not something I wanna smell like. It's hard to find the occasion where this would fit in, but maybe on others it smells better. A great scent just not for me.

The initial blast is promising. Grapefruit and peppey and a healthy dose of orange with hints of cedar. It all goes downhill from there. The grapefruit and pepper fade and a mango'esque note joins the orange and what was a thick rich and deep opening all becomes rather anemic. At this point any semblance of naturalness in the scent has faded and I find myself surrounded by wafts of.. it took me a while to place, but wafts of Dawn dishsoap. Yes, an hour or so after spraying, it begins to smell like Dawn original scent dishsoap, and this scent lingers for hours and hours until the cedar and vetiver in the base finally make themselves known again, but by then it's too late. A synthetic mess. I know a lot of people love the scent, but there seem to be equal numbers (on Basenotes at least, a forum about all things perfume) that truly dislike it. A common comment over there is that it smells of "rotten oranges" - and while I wouldn't use that exact imagery, I can understand where they are coming from. A better alternative is L'Artisan's Timbuktu, which starts out just as rich but even dryer, but goes through a much more interesting evolution throughout its life. I've also heard Cereus #5 is supposed to be similar to Terre D'Hermes. I'll have to give it a shot, as I like the concept of Terre D'Hermes, it's just the execution that falls flat.
