Born in 1921, French designer Guy Laroche began his fashion career as a hat maker before becoming the assistant of designer Jean Desses in 1947

boutique and launched his first ready to wear collection. Laroche is credited with reintroducing color back into fashion—pink, orange, coral, topaz and turquoise were often seen in his creations. A humble and gracious man, Laroche believed in the wearability and practicality of his fashions—in addition to haute couture, he also strived to design everyday clothing and was the first to introduce separates into the American market. 1966 saw the creation of his first menswear line, his first men’s boutique and the introduction of his first women’s perfume, Fidji.
