Impressed with the luxurious luggage of guests at the exclusive hotels in London and Paris where Guccio Gucci worked at the end of the 19th century, he set up shop upon his return to Florence to produce and sell the type of fine leather goods he saw during his time abroad. The offerings of the early Gucci store were simple and only included leather items such as luggage, accessories, handbags and shoes.
In time, and based on their popularity among movies stars and jet-set travelers, Gucci products became known world-wide as an international status symbol and became a staple of lifestyle magazines around the world.
The 1960s and 1970s were good for the family run business but the 1980s and 1990s saw the family relinquish ownership of the company. This cologne smells like treated plywood. It has the exact same acrid smell to it. They try to mask this by using very heavy cedar notes; which doesn't help. And the COLOR is different from the picture. I know, who cares, right? The REAL COLOR looks like the sickly green color of gasoline when it's been mixed with 2-cycle engine oil. It's not the amber-hued liquid pictured above. It looks as bad as it smells. Have fun washing this scent out of your clothes too, because it's there for days. I just wish good smelling cologne lasted as long as this olfactory nightmare.

I got a sample of this perfume and am entranced. I stick to my signature scent (Opium) and have all the matching scented products. However, I will be converting as I adore this one. It is very woodsy, spicy and sensual. It is a scent that makes a statement. If I scent could elicit a feeling, I would say I feel empowered, yet subliminally sexy when I wear it. Love it!

I literally just opened the box this morning and tried some before going to work. It's the end of the day, so I feel like this cologne has shown me all of its intended qualities. First impression: CEDAR! Like that cedar chest at your grandmother's house which stores all of the winter blankets. It mellows out after a while into something more spicy/smoky, but still the cedar is there. It's still noticeable at 5 o'clock when the amber/musky aromas come through. Bottom line, if you don't like a woody-cedar smell, then avoid this cologne. If that's your cup of tea, then you will love this scent. I'm only giving it a 3 because I'm not one for the woody scents. It is a well crafted scent that lasts all day, like a good pour homme fragrance should.
