• Review of Original Vetiver by Scent Hound

  I'm quite enamored with vetiver scents, and have a solid collection (Guerlain, Goutal, Floris, Creed's 1948 version) that I use regularly. I received Original Vetiver as a very generous gift from my brother, and while it does not satisfy my vetiver jones, I DO like it. It is soapy clean, (and yes, it does smell like Mugler's Cologne, but with superior depth and quality), with a pure and mild Haitian vetiver that makes its presence known within 30 minutes of application. Very versatile, too.

  I love all things vetiver and this fragrance is without a doubt, one of the finest vetivier scents on the market. It is fresh, clean, crisp and clear. There is just a whisper of musk in the first blast but it fades out quickly, leaving a relatively sweet, bright scent that is amazing.

  I am not a huge fan of Vetiver fragrances. The more vetiver, the more obnoxious the scent in my opinion. However, with Creed's Original Vetiver the vetiver grass itself is well-masked behind a lot of other citrusy and herbal notes. It also has some of the Creed house notes of amber and musk, which somehow lead to a soapy quality in this scent. Some people really like that - the soapiness gives them a clean and fresh feeling. Personally, I feel that the soapiness detracts from the scent and makes me feel like there is a film or residue on me when I wear this one. I feel like I am wearing a cleaning agent instead of a fragrance. It's nice and well-made but it's just not my type of fragrance.
