Jean was an actress and 1930s sex symbol-- audiences loved her but critics hated her, mocking her acting abilities and saying she "ruined" any scene she appeared in, despite how well the films sold. On her 21st birthday Jean was bought out by MGM, and it was here she became an industry star, becoming a dreamteam duo with Clark Gable and one of the highest paid actresses of her time. She is credited with keeping MGM afloat during the depression, and her career went to heights that her health never attained. The star died at the young age of 26 from renal failure.
