We at The Daily Spritz love us some Karl Lagerfeld. Which is why we were delighted to hear that The Kaiser’s latest project — a unisex fragrance trio called “Kapsule” — is hitting shelves next month. The collection includes the scents Woody, Light, and Floriental, and were formulated to be worn alone or layered. Woody features notes of cedar, moss, and plum. Light has bitter orange, jasmine, nutmeg, clove, and musk. Floriental is comprised of of ivy leaf, violet and black tea leaf notes.

Uncle Karl is not new to the fragrance biz. Chloe, Lagerfeld, and Sun Moon Stars are just a few of his former creations, and he’s has been quoted as saying, “I love the world of perfumes. For me, the world of fashion doesn’t exist without it.”

The Kapsule scents are reported to be utterly wearable, and reflect his own perfume preferences. While he shuns overly floral fragrances, Karl’s favorite scents include fresh bread, vanilla, and spices.

This seems to us like a form of torture, though, since we’ve heard he’s all but given up eating food. (Unless you count Protein Sachets.) Either way, we can’t wait to try the Kapsule Collection. We’ll wear it as an “Eau’d” to Karl.

While in Canada this week on a business trip, I picked up a copy of Canadian Elle magazine and was delighted to discover it was the fragrance issue. I perused the pages and intertwined with tons of interesting articles were, of course, plenty of scent ads. There were the usual suspects — Givenchy, Versace, Estee — plus one a bit more unusual. Next to a big old blown-up photo of a cinnamon bun, a McDonald’s ad read, “The new fragrance for your mouth” and had a “lift here” tab to uncover said fragrance.

My initial confusion gave way to curiosity so I peeled the tab back to experience this new “fragrance.” And it was delish. Spicy and cinnamon-y, it personified fall and made me want to whip up some hot toddies and carve a pumpkin. Since McDonald’s cinnamon bun scent isn’t actually bottled and available to purchase (thank goodness), see below for some alternative options.

God Bless Karl Lagerfeld. Who else would take a gorgeous supermodel like Angela Lindvall and have her walk the runway with a bag obstructing her face? Not just any bag, mind you, but one featuring his likeness. This, of course, is just what he did as part of his Spring 2009 show on Wednesday. Amazing.

Today is Karl Lagerfeld’s birthday.

And while it’s still a mystery whether there should be 70 or 75 candles on his protein-sachet cake (and Karl himself’s not talking), we at The Spritz are left to wonder:

What do you get a man who’s already given us so much? 

How could we possibly thank him for things like his endless supply of delightfully-saucy quotes (”They sent a private jet. I said, ‘It’s too small. I need a bigger plane.’ It’s fun, no?”)  For his signature fingerless-gloves and that unapologetic ponytail. For the limited-edition teddy bear he designed in his own likeness–complete with tiny shades–shown above.

(BTW, you can snap one up starting this month for a cool $1500 at Neiman Marcus, if you’re so inclined. Note that it comes with, among other things, a “Scribble of the bear, drawn and signed by Karl Lagerfeld.” Irresistible.)

So in the absence of a budget that would allow us to buy him a new, bigger jet, we suppose that our boundless admiration will have to do.

But by all means, let us know here if you have any better ideas.

Ok, count among people we love: Karl Lagerfeld

He’s dressed Madge, and Gwennie, and Lindsay. The man OWNS Paris (the city, not the heiress). He’s unapologetically cranky, and famously lost a million pounds by eating something called “protein sachets” (read all about it here.)

But best of all, he has the delightful audacity to say things like this (brought to us by someone else we love, laineygossip.com):

“I have no problem with journalists – many are friends. Only if they are really stupid, or if they’ve got bad breath, or if they smell. Yesterday [after the Chanel couture show] I had a problem. I said, ‘I’m sorry, you’ve got to tell this woman that she needs to be taken away. Her smell is not possible.’ ”

Of course, we here at The Daily Spritz can only theorize what the unfortunate journalist actually smelled like. And we can assume that, since it WAS fashion week, she was probably doing her best.

But here, some ways to appease La Lagerfeld if you should run into him at the Fashion Week tents this week. (And good luck to you if you do, btw):

Karl couldn’t possibly banish you if you walked in smelling like this signature fragrance from Fendi. He’s responsible for creating the inverted FF Fendi logo, after all–which was just the beginning of the Lagerfeld/Fendi collaboration that’s lasted, like, forever.
