First off, apologies to those of you who consider yourself too “pun-sensitive” for our headline.

Our Marketing Maven Alison is straight-up batty for a good pun, and Halloween’s really gotten her all hot and boo-thered in the creativity department. Girl really knows how to show her holiday spirit. (Get it…? Spirit? As in ghost? Does that last one even count?)

    But we digress.

Now, back to business. More Tricks and Treats from our latest newsletter below. (Also, don’t just stand there–join us! It’s fun, and guaranteed to save you some serious extra cash this holiday. Swear.)

    TRICK:
Perfume is sensitive. Treat your fragrances with the same TLC you give your other well-loved liquids. (Hello, wine cellar!) Store your scents in a cool, dark place for maximum shelf-life, and make sure your caps are on tight–most perfumes are alcohol-based, and will evaporate easily.

    TREAT:

    24 Faubourg by Hermes
Spritz on a little floral, fancy Frenchy-ness with this classic from Hermes (rumored to have been Lady Di’s signature scent.)

Just in time for Halloween, we’re dressing up our best perfume tricks and putting them on parade.

Our latest-and-greatest E-mail Extras newsletter features our editor’s craftiest perfume tricks, plus a highlight of some of our most favorite scents for the season… and at least one that’s on almost everybody’s favorite list, regardless of season.  (We’re talking to you, Marc Jacobs Daisy. And, may we say, what an ADORABLE flower costume you’re wearing!)

Sign-up here for our E-mail Extras to make sure you’re always in the n-”eau.” More reasons to join: exclusive access to more discounts! Woot woot!

And now, get your bags ready for a bevy of treats, and some tricks you will actually like. No need to even ring our doorbell.

    TRICK:
Dry winter skin doesn’t hold onto fragrance as well as its summer counterpart. Help your signature scent have as much staying-power as possible by doing some pre-perfume prep: exfoliate weekly (yep, your body needs it, too!), and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Best-case scenario? Pick a body lotion with the same scent as your fragrance of choice, natch.

    TREAT:

    Daisy by Marc Jacobs

We’re huge fans of fun, flirty Daisy–and we’re not alone. This one’s an editor favorite, with an adorable bottle to boot. (And we’ve got you covered in the body-lotion department with Daisy, too. Snap one up for steal here.)

The UK press reports that NASA has tasked a Brit chemist with creating a fragrance that smells like outer space.

The idea follows that, along with knowing what weightlessness feels like, astronauts will be better prepared for their big journey to the Final Frontier if they’re conditioned to know what to expect in the smell department.

And what, pray tell, does outer space smell like?
Apparently, “fried steak, hot metal and even welding a motorbike,” or so astronauts in-the-know tell the Daily Mail.

The hardest part: re-creating the smell of hot metal. They gotta get all molecular to do that, apparently.

The project will be ready to roll at the end of this year. Unclear if anyone will take it to market, but consider all fingers at the Daily Spritz crossed.

In the meantime, speak/comment now if you’ve got a suitable substitute in mind.
We’ll put all of your Big Ideas front-and-center on the Spritz, along with a suitable headshot (if you’re so inclined).

Mad Men — AMC’s hit TV series about 1960s advertising execs on New York City’s Madison Avenue — has many of us thinking: am I a Joan, a Betty, or a Peggy?

If you’ve never seen the show, red-headed Joan is head-to-toe curves and exudes pure sex appeal. Main character Don Draper’s wife, Betty, is a Grace Kelly doppelganger, and earnest Peggy is plain-Jane pretty.

We’re gonna do a little breakdown of each character’s beauty basics for your pilfering pleasure.  Stay tuned.

I recently read an article about a dance party in Finland, called SenCity, held especially for the deaf.  The concept is amazing — employ dancers’ other senses (namely sight and smell) to allow them to enjoy the music.

Participants experience the music through “signdancers” who “use dance moves and sign language to communicate song lyrics” says the event’s organizer. Perhaps more importantly, and interestingly, scented oils that correlate to the mood of each song are released. So dancers may not be able to hear the music, but through sight and smell, they can feel it.

I would love to experience one of these events. I wonder which smells match which songs? Can you imagine which aroma would go with your favorite tune?

The first look of Moschino’s Spring 2009 RTW collection was a bit of a head scratcher. Now, this is coming from someone who subscribes to the “never enough bows” school of thought, but the size, placement, and pairing-with-a-harlequin-print was a bit too clown-like for even this prep.

The rest of the collection, however, more than made up for it. The beyond-lovely mix of ruffles, wraps, and lady-like silhouettes included a smattering of bows in all the right shapes and sizes and strategic placements.

Also count among things-to-love about the show: the bouffant, cotton-candy-like hair-dos and cat-eye shades. So sweet.
