Pierre Balmain, a French designer of the 1940s through 1960s, has been immortalized by his elegant, sophisticated tailoring which prompted his popular saying “dressmaking is the architecture of movement." Like his bell-shaped skirts with small waists (rumor having Christian Dior imitating them for his revolutionary New Look) his perfumes are redolent of a retro femininity when men opened doors, served the wine and held umbrellas for the ladies.
Balmain de Balmain in the standard architectural, sparse bottle with the black label, was introduced in 1998 gently reminiscent of the classic fashions, yet holding its own in the modern sea of fragrances. A fragrance which belongs to the sophisticated mossy woods family with spicy accents of pepper, Balmain de Balmain blends the natural sensuality of jasmine alongside rose, made refreshing thanks to the natural juiciness of bergamot and the cool backdrop of vetiver, an exotic grass of the Far East. The warmth and powdery feel of sandalwood, iris, oakmoss and patchouli make it an instant classic that sassies up the boardroom.
